Biography

I am a first-year PhD student in Computer Science at Georgia State University. My research interests lie in AI for Online Safety, Computational Social Science, and Social Media Analysis. Specifically, I am interested in (I) analyzing darknet content to explore its reflections on the clearnet and real-world dynamics and (II) detecting, uncovering, and combating harmful content on social media (e.g., misinformation, illicit services, yellow journalism) using AI to create transparency and safeguard users.

Prior to joining GSU, I spent wonderful time as an islander (제주도민) on Jeju Island, where I worked as an AI specialist, developing data and machine learning pipelines for smart aquaculture. I hold a Master’s degree in Applied AI from Hanyang University, South Korea, and a Bachelor’s degree in Software Science from Dankook University, South Korea. During my Master’s, I had an eye-opening and inspiring summer at the University of Warwick, UK, where I collaborated with researchers from diverse disciplines and gained invaluable insights into leveraging data science for social good.

Selected Projects

Towards Greenwashing Detection - a Deep Learning-Based Mechanism for Greenwashing Identification
Greenwashing is a growing form of climate misinformation, designed to distract the public from the environmentally harmful activities of companies such as fossil fuel producers. Greenwashing strategies are typically subtle, not containing outright falsehoods but painting a misleading picture by emphasising environmentally beneficial activities while neglecting to communicate that the net effect of the company’s activities are negative.
Short Video Illicit Promotional Content Detector on Chinese TikTok
Illicit promotional contents (IPCs) are advertising materials or campaigns that violate platform policies by employing deceptive, misleading, or fraudulent practices to promote products, services, or events. As short video platforms have gained popularity, these illicit contents have adapted to take the form of short videos, which we define as Short Video-Illicit promotional contents (SV-IPCs), becoming increasingly prevalent.
